Difference between radiometric radiocarbon dating
Radiocarbon dating can provide ages for materials less than 40,000 years old.Radiocarbon or 14C (pronounced "carbon fourteen") is a radioactive form of carbon. This means that an organism that died 5,700 years ago will have only one half of its original 14C.Normal 12C has 6 protons and 6 neutrons, whereas 14C has 6 protons and 8 neutrons.
